Britons love Christmas, but this year the urge to splurge is likely to be tempered by the reality of job losses, pay freezes and economic uncertainty. Yet while the government prepares to cut a swathe through public spending, businesses can ill afford such a drastic approach. For many, the so-called ‘golden quarter' in the lead-up to Christmas can make or break them. Motivating and recognising staff, clients and suppliers are crucial to year-end prospects.
