| Whether you want to whisk
clients away from the cold weather or make the most
of it with a swish ski trip, we look into imaginative
destinations for when the budget is tight.
This year it’s not just been the weather that’s
blighted the British summer. The credit crunch and
rising fuel costs have led to bankruptcies for companies
such as Xl (the UK’s third-largest tour operator),
low cost operator Zoom and a number of US travel operators.
In spite of all this, however, corporate travel seems
to be surviving. So what do suppliers suggest when
budgets are pressed?
Scenario – Executive Destress
A restaurant chain is holding its annual general
meeting for its top executives. They are predominantly
in their 40s and 50s and the majority are men.
Libby Christie, Head of Operations at Unmissable,
says: “For a group of executives, a trip to
Monte Carlo has to be in order. Mild climate and all
the pizzazz and razzmatazz of one of the world’s
most glamorous locations mean that this is an ideal
choice. Monte Carlo has lots to offer – riding
on super yacht and boats, daring helicopter trips,
Harley Davidson rides and wine tasting in ancient
cellars. It’s just a short flight away and there’s
plenty to do and see in a small area, which means
planning is much easier.”
Scenario – Booked Up
A publishing company is launching its new titles
to its 40-strong sales force. This has a 50:50 gender
split and the majority are in their 40s.
Libby Christie, Head of Operations at Unmissable,
says: “ Istanbul is perfect for this. It has
a good climate and is exciting in similar ways to
Marrakech, yet its more westernised, so less of a
culture shock. A beautiful new Four Seasons hotel
has just opened, with excellent amenities for incentive
trips away. This 19th century palace is one of Istanbul’s
most stunning settings. Pools overlooking the Asian
shore provide a resort-style ambience that works very
well for entertaining clients.”
