herd2Unmissable are proud to be the latest patron of the Elephant Parade, a conservation project run by the charity Elephant Family, aimed at drawing attention to plight of the Asian elephants who’s numbers have fallen by 70% since 1980.  As well as being a completely green project it is also the biggest ever public art event hosted in London.

The 258 fibreglass elephants, that have been individually painted by different artists, are  located in London’s many Parks and Squares and the Unmissable sponsored Elephant will be residing in Hyde Park until 30 June when the most ornate 30 will be auctioned.

Unmissable join a host of high profile celebrities backing this worthy project including HRH Prince of Wales, Stephen Fry, Michael Palin and Boris Johnson.

To tie in with the Elephant Parade Unmissable are launching a number of amazing elephant conservation themed incentive travel trips and some will feature on our next newsletter including the following.  Don’t forget to look out for the chance to win your very own minature version of some of these fabulous pieces of art.  And watch out for our own little elephant, Whizz, currently hanging out in Hyde Park with the ‘happy herd’ for the next couple of months:

Elephant Bedroom Camp in the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya.  An ideal place to see these magnificent creatures up close but in their own environment   Elephant Bedroom Camp is environmentally sensitive and takes responsibility to enhance the environment on a sustainable basis. The camp employs members of the local community and also contributes to the education of this community.

Unmissable work with the Elephant Mahout Project in Thailand and have launched a programme whereby you can spend time at the camp learning about the elephants, how to care and look after them and how to be a mahout (elephant trainer). Through the volunteer and elephant care experience projects the project raises money for displaced elephants and mahouts to provide food, comfortable and adequate care and medical assistance.

Indian Elephant Safari is the ultimate way to go on safari.  This 14 day trip is all about total cultural and environmental immersion. This is not a sanitised trip, you will be meeting local people, staying in their villages and getting involved in local community projects and cultural programmes.  This is a sustainable tourism project set up to enhance local communities and not exploit them or the environment.
